Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Sir Michael Foster, Secretary, Royal Society |
Date | 27 July 1899 |
Description | Encloses the typed copy of Foster's letter to Sir Clements Markham [not attached]. Asks whether in drafting the sentence about the Royal Society bringing its influence to bear in support of the efforts of Markham and the Royal Geographical Society, Foster had in mind the fact that the renewed effort [towards an Antarctic expedition] now in progress was initiated at the Royal Society by the suggestion for a discussion meeting, and that the suggestion for the appointment of a joint committee of the two Societies to approach the Government came from the Royal Society.
Foster may also like to note that in the letter from Markham suggesting the movement of 1894 Markham asked the Royal Society to take the lead in approaching the Government on the subject. Notes a verbal alteration he has made to Foster's letter. |
