Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to John Evans, Treasurer of the Royal Society |
Date | 29 May 1888 |
Description | Rix mentions that William Turner Thiselton-Dyer was impressed by the refreshments and attendants at the recent Linnean Soirée, which were supplied by the "Oriental Association", and that he and Dr Michael Foster would like to use the same people for the forthcoming Royal Society Ladies' Soirée.
Rix provides the comparative cost for last year's attendants and refreshments for 630 people and for the same as supplied by the Oriental Association, noting that although the cost is nearly twice as much 'the entertainment is twice as good'. The difficulty is due to the fact that the orders have already been placed, and it would cause upset to cancel them at this stage. However, Rix awaits the decision of the Society's officers. Finally, he lists the drinks for the Ladies' Soirée ordered at Evans' instruction. |
