Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Clements Robert Markham, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 2 June 1888 |
Description | States that Lord Charles Cavendish was awarded the Copley Medal in 1757, and the Honorable Henry Cavendish in 1766, and clarifies that the custom is to give a silver replica of the Royal Medal, but no replica of the Copley medal. The originals are always in gold.
It is likely that Charles Cavendish had copies struck at his own expense, as he could not have been presented the medal five times. |
