TitleCopy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Augustus George Vernon Harcourt, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date2 December 1901
DescriptionNotes that since October he has been moribund and continues as Secretary for the convenience of the Society only. Has had Harcourt's letter of 12 November in his possession for some time but does not quite understand what Harcourt thinks he ought to have been done about said letter. If it was private he does not think Harcourt marked it as such.

Has been in communication with Government Departments two or three times a week and has served in one for 15 years and feels certain that in none of them would a letter of this kind have been replied to directly by the head of department. Does not think it reasonable to insist that every letter about a routine matter should be signed by a Secretary. Notes in the future that if Harcourt tries to put a greater burden on the Secretaries than they at present bear, Society arrangements will break down.
