Title | Copy letter from Michael Foster, the Secretary, Admiralty, Whitehall, S.W. |
Date | 11 December 1901 |
Description | In reply to the Secretary's letter, M. 16664, of 30 November, the Royal Society addressed on 14 November a letter to the Foreign Office, asking that the thanks of the Society be transmitted to the Dutch Government for the assistance given to H F Newall. The thanks of the Society were thus limited as the expedition under Newall was the only expedition actually sent out by the Joint Permanent Eclipse Committee of the Royal and Royal Astronomical Societies. The Royal Observatory expedition, through approved of by the Joint Committee, was not directly sent out by them, and it was supposed that the Lords of Admiralty would wish to convey their thanks for the assistance given to this expedition. |
