Title | Copy letter from Arthur Geikie, to The Most Honorable The Marquess of Lansdowne |
Date | 2 June 1904 |
Description | President and Council have had under their consideration the high importance of the geodetic measurements now in progress in South Africa, and Geikie is directed to enclose for Lansdowne's information a copy of the report of a Committee and their resolution [no enclosures].
The International Association of Academies unanimously supports the proposition on the question of the measurement of the African arc. The work is very important and it is desired that it is carried on through Egypt and the Mediterranean, if Lansdowne would be so good as to bring the matter to the Egyptian Government with the view of providing funds to defray the cost. |
