Title | Copy letter from Archibald Geikie, to Edwin Ray Lankester, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 19 November 1904 |
Description | The plot appears to be thickening. The Colonial Office are asking for £250 a year out of the £1000 for Tropical Disease research, to go towards a Professorship of protozoology at the London Tropical School, presumably for five years. A letter came from Sir Michael Foster who was at the meeting of the Advisory Board when this was proposed. This is quite of the question, as the Tropical Diseases Committee had before it the matter of £1000 but decided to not to act on it until Council had decided. The money has not yet been distributed. If they accept the £1000 they might be willing to let them have £250, but if not the Advisory Board will have enough funds to endow the chair for five years. Has written to Foster to explain their hands are tied in the matter. |
