|Title||Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to George Scharf, National Portrait Gallery Offices, 20 Great George Street|
|Date||11 March 1889|
|Description||In answer to Scharf's letter of 7 March, Rix replies that they have two folio volumes containing 'Canton Papers; collected by John Canton, F.R.S. [Fellow of the Royal Society] and his son William Canton...' and 'Prolegomena, prepared and arranged by James Yates, F.R.S'. There is also a large thin quarto of additional Canton papers.|
Rix does not find any of Yates's apparatus in their catalogue. He notes that there are letters of Franklin, Priestly, Doddridge and others in the Canton papers.
