TitleCopy letter from Archibald Geikie, to Spencer Percival Umfreville Pickering, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date14 November 1907
DescriptionGeikie compliments Pickering on his obituary notice of Robert Warington, and in particular his handling of the disagreement between Warington and Gilbert. Since it was in type, however, Geikie explains that friends of Gilbert's have appealed against any reference being made in the obituary being published by the Royal Society and he concedes that publication of any reference to the quarrel may bring it to prominence again, having previously been put to rest. Geikie has given the matter serious thought, and believes they should omit the relevant paragraphs in the cause of peace.

He encloses a copy of the notice, with modifications marked in red ink, and hopes that Pickering will agree with them.
