| Description | His letter requesting to be relieved of the care of the telescopes which were placed in his hands in 1871, with such remarkable results for the progress of Astronomy, has been considered by Council. The Council resolved that they regret that Huggins and Lady Huggins have had to terminate the stellar observational part of their work, and hope they will be successful with the correlative spectroscopic investigations. They approve that the instruments can go to the Newall Astrophysical equipment at the Cambridge Observatory if they can be profitably employed. In view of the important connection of the equipment with the founding and development of Astrophysics, the Council wishes that the name Sir Williamm Huggins be permanently attached to the instruments. |
