TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster
Date10 February 1890
DescriptionRix notes the Royal Society has nothing to do with sending the papers to 'Nature'. The sub-editor writes direct to the authors directly the advertisement appears on Tuesday morning before the meeting. It is quite exceptional for an author to ask Rix as Edridge Green has done, whether he may send it. Rix has stopped Green but as a rule Rix has no power to stop papers.

Rix asks if the Croonian Lecture is to be held at the Society. Enclosed is a note from Professor W C Williamson [not attached]. Rix has the manuscript paper on 'Science before the deluge as derived from Noah's ark' with an appendix on 'Who was Melchizedek?' and has told him it must be communicated by a Fellow.

In spite of Rix's earnest endeavours 'Nature' gave a very bad place for the Government Grant advertisement. Rix has now sent the second advertisement and written strongly about it. Encloses a letter to the Prince of Monaco and asks Foster to sign and send it.
