TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to the Right Honourable Sir Lyon Playfair
Date24 January 1891
DescriptionRix discusses the appointment of a sub-Committee to the Stokes Portrait Committee consisting of Playfair, Sir Frederick Augustus Abel, Sir Frederick Joseph Bramwell, Professor William Henry Flower, and Sir Henry Enfield Roscoe. Dr [Michael] Foster informs Rix that Playfair has consented to act as Chairman of the Committee and sub-Committee. The instruction to the sub-Committee was that Mr [Hubert von] Herkomer was to be approached before other artists to undertake the portrait but Rix is not aware whether any arrangements were made as to who was to see Herkomer or whether that is a point for the sub-Committee. If the latter there is no reason why they should not meet at once and Rix lists the only present upcoming fixtures.
