Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Lord Thomas John Hovell-Thurlow Cumming-Bruce, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 17 February 1890 |
Description | In answer to Lord Thurlow's letter of 15 February [1890], Rix remembers Mr Falk calling on him and to the best of his recollection Rix stated it only as his private impression that the Library Committee would not be likely to recommend a grant of the 'Philosophical Transactions [of the Royal Society]' to the Liverpool Athenaeum. There is nothing however to prevent an application being considered. In the event of the application being declined it would still be open to Lord Thurlow as a Fellow to purchase on behalf of the Athenaeum all the volumes of the 'Transactions' prior to the last five years at one third the published price. Thurlow is entitled to the volumes from 1886-1889 free of cost. Any volume not applied for within five years of the date of publication is forfeited. |
