Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Mr Street, Board of Works, War Office, Pall Mall |
Date | 20 September 1890 |
Description | Rix has lately returned from holiday and during his absence he finds that the Board of Works men have been painting the house. They had no notice that this was going to happen and the men arrived one morning and demanded access to his private rooms. All the windows had recently been cleaned at a cost of £2 and they were made dirty again by the workmen as were the steps which had recently been whitened in preparation for the re-opening. Rix asks if in future a day or two's notice can be given. The varnishing of the front door has been so badly done that it is already covered with blisters. |
