Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison to Dr F [Frederick] F [Frost] Blackman FRS |
Date | 1 May 1909 |
Description | 'Paper by G H Drew on the reproduction and early development of laminaria digitata and laminaria saccharina.' Both referees are of opinion that this paper should not be published in the Phil[osophical] Trans[actions of the Royal Society]. Prof Farmer says that the paper seems to be more suited for a botanical journal, at the most it might be inserted into the Proceedings [of the Royal Society], though personally he does not think this should be done. In his judgement the whole justification for the appearance in a publication of the R S [Royal Society] would be the fact that the plant in generally known and therefore contributions to its life history may be supposed to possess some popular interest. Prof Oliver is of the opinion that though the paper is hardly important enough for the Phil Trans it undoubtedly deals with the subject matter of distinct interest and should be published in some form or another. On the whole, he thinks, the paper, with some slight omissions, might appear in the Proceedings.' |
