DescriptionHarrison is directed by the President of the Royal society to state that, as there will be not Council Meeting before April 28th, the opinions of Astronomers have been collected with regard to the prospective vacancy in the officer of Superintendent of the Nautical Almanac.

The results of those opinions are; Mr Philip Herbert Cowell's, FRS [Fellow of the Royal Society] appointment would secure proper conduct, improvement of practical duties, and might be expected to made the Department a centre of research in Astronomical calculation. If my Cowell is not available, scientific opinion would welcome the appointment of Mr A C D Crommelin.
