I have your note of yesterday and received your previous letter undertaking responsibility for the safe keeping and return of the Herschel MSS you desire to examine. We have, however, had considerable difficulty in tracing these manuscript which, in the course of years and of the removal into the present building, had become concealed in a remote part of one of the store rooms. They have now been found however, and shall be despatched to you with due precautions to-morrow: to-day, being a Council day, I am afraid I cannot spare anyone to look them out and pack them up.' |
