Date27 July 1910
With reference to your letter of June 23, relating to the Joule Studentship, I am directed to inform you that the Treasurer's cheque for an instalment of the Studentship is now being forwarded to Signora Evangelin Amerio Chiantella, in accordance with the request contained in your letter under reference.
In view, however, of the fact that a year has already elapsed since the award of the Studentship to Professor Amerio, we are sending the Signora one half of the total value of the Studentship, namely, £50, and will deal with the balance of £50 in such way as Professor Amerio may find most convenient, with the proviso that we prefer not the make a smaller payment than £25 at one time.'
