Title | Copy letter from Joseph Larmor, to The Under Secretary of State for India |
Date | 22 October 1910 |
Description | Regarding their letter of 30 July, Larmor reports that in accordance with the request of the Secretary of State for India the Observatories Committee of the Royal Society has considered the qualifications of six candidates who have offered themselves for the post of the Assistant Director at Kodaikanal Observatory, and have now decided to send up, for Lord Morley's consideration, the names, in alphabetical order, of the candidates they consider best suited: W. E Rolston, and T Royds.
Rolston has had over ten years experience at a Solar Physics Laboratory, Royds is a young man of no observatory experience, but who has done much excellent experimental work in spectroscopy and shows great promise.
The Committee took into consideration the various reports of the Indian Observatories, and also the plan of operations of the Meteorological and Survey Departments as submitted to the Board of Scientific Advice in India. The Committee consider the work therein reported to be proceeding in a satisfactory manner. |
