Title | Copy letter from Joseph Larmor, to The Principal Assistant Secretary, Technological Branch, Board of Education |
Date | 16 December 1910 |
Description | The Joint Permanent Eclipse Committee of the Royal Society and the Royal Astronomical Society report that the sum of £400 allotted to them by the Government Grant Committee last March, subject to approval of their plans, is insufficient for their expedition to the Pacific, and they would like £110 in addition. Under these circumstances there would be no authority to make a grant to the Eclipse Expedition promoted by the Board of Education until the Government Grant Committee meets in March. There are also private and unofficial investigations, which have prior claim, that have more than exhausted the amount of the grant.
The Joint Permanent Eclipse Committee reports that it would be highly desirable that this Solar Physics party should observe the Eclipse and they would be glad if the funds could be found, without entrenching on the amount required for Father Cortie's party. |
