|Title||Copy letter from Joseph Larmor to Professor E [Ernest] Rutherford FRS|
|Date||7 July 1911|
|Description||'The Indian Government want to fill immediately a vacancy among the three Imperial Meteorologists of India - temporarily for a period of five years, in the hope of by that time having a native of India eligible for appointment. They offer Rs.500 a month, rising by Rs.50 to Rs.700 in the fifth year. A sound knowledge of experimental physics or of mathematical physics is desirable, but knowledge of meteorology is not essential; above all, capacity for conducting official and other correspondence is important, as in view of the short period of tenure, time cannot be devoted to training in India. |
If you have any candidates to suggest, their names and qualifications will be submitted to the Observatories Committee at the end of July, with a view of advising the Government of India.'
