TitleCopy letter from Joseph Larmor to Major E H Hills FRS, Joint Permanent Eclipse Committee
Date21 March 1912
Description'The Government Grant Committee have had under consideration the statement of expenditure incurred by the members of the expedition sent by the Joint Permanent Eclipse Committee to Tonga to observe the solar eclipse of 1911, April 28, together with your application for a refund of £94.11.11, the amount expended over and above the £400 voted by the Government Grant Committee.
I am directed to state that the Committee at their meeting yesterday voted a sum of £75 from their Reserve Fund for the purpose mentioned in your application; but that they could not see their way to grant the remainder of the sum applied for, namely, £19.11.11.
A cheque for £75 can be obtained from the Clerk to the Committee at any time after June 1 next.
We should be glad to receive as soon as possible a list of the instruments asked for in the letter from the Clerk dated March 7.'
