Description | 'Catalogue of Periodicals. The enclosed revised specimen which I have received from Mr Hart seems to me a great improvement on the first proof. The arrows are quite clear without being so hideous as the first ones, and the reference numerals are quite clear although small. The only improvement I should suggest is that these reference numerals might run out to the end of the line, since in the cases in which they are used - that is, cross-reference entries - there are no particulars of publication to occupy in substantive entries which have such particulars. Such an arrangement, it seems to me, would balance the page better and would place the reference number where the eye naturally looks for particulars. If you agree with me will you please send me back the proof as soon as possible and I will send it on to Oxford as approved for style.' |
