Title | Copy letter from John Rose Bradford to the Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office |
Date | 19 November 1912 |
Description | Bradford is driected by the President and Council of the Royal Society to request the consideration of the Government of Western Australia to the statement in the memorandum enclosed [no enclosure]. The Royal Society desire to express their appreciation of the important Scientific work of the observatories in the British Dominions in the Southern Hemisphere. So important did the Society consider the completion of the zone of International Star Catalogue undertaken by Perth, that they have subsidized the Astronomer Royal at Edinburgh to take over the part of the photographic measurement of the plates which threatened to be too much for Perth's unaided efforts. There is a danger of these financial subsidies being unable to continue; the Royal Society respectfully urge that the Government of Western Australia would ensure that the cataloguing of this zone of the heaven should be brought to completion. |
