Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Dr William Napier Shaw, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 5 May 1913 |
Description | Harrison has Shaw's letter of the 2 May. Speaking for himself at the first glance he does not see how Shaw could treat Gray's grant of £200 as a capital sum for general purposes at Eskdalemuir, the terms of the grant being that it was made 'for seismology at Eskdalemuir Observatory'. This is quite consistent with being applied to the payment of the seismological assistant, and if by such application an equivalent sum is released for other purposes that seems to be a question for Shaw to decide whether he is at liberty to release to money. In that case there would be no necessity to consult Mr GRay because his money will have been applied in accordance with his wishes. |
