| Description | A response to Sydenham's letter regarding the paper by Vredenburg which he sent in to the Royal Society in August, with a suggestion that it might be deposited in the archives, has been delayed by the vacation. There is no power residing in the Secretaries or other officers to preserve a communication in the archives, except by authority of the Committee of Papers after due examination in accordance with standing orders.
The paper appears to be in the nature of a confidential official document prepared by the author in his official capacity, as a civil servant of the government of India, and quoting confidential reports which have not been published. As such it can hardly find a place in the file of the Society, and it would be quite unsuitable for publication. In these circumstances it is open to be withdrawn. This would be in the best interests of all concerned. |
