Title | Copy letter from Theodore E James, to John Evans, Treasurer, Royal Society |
Date | 1 September 1891 |
Description | James reports that it has been a week since he sent a letter to the waste paper firm warning them of the instruction of Messrs Few & Company should they fail to pay, and asks what he should do now. He also encloses an estimate of Oerthing for repairing the balance of the Government Grant that Mr Callendar wants to use, and asks if Oerthing should go on with it.
James also notes that the Treasury replied to Dr Michael Foster's letter requesting copies of Parliamentary Papers on scientific matters, to state that they are willing, providing it is not retrospective. They requested the current list of papers marked so that the Stationary Office could deliver. Foster states James must send the list to Evans, but appears to have only marked two papers.
James also encloses one of thirty letters which were to have been signed by Sir Lyon Playfair as Chairman of the Stokes Portrait Committee; but as he is in America until Novemeber, James asks if Evans will sign them, or if he should wait. He explains that they are to Fellows who have not subscribed, and it would be desirable to send them soon. |
