TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Sir William Bowman, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date6 March 1891
DescriptionRix reports that, having now seen a proof of the portrait, he now believes it would be spoilt by the headline he suggested, as the result is much more artistic than he was expecting. He thinks a headline would be too eye catching, and suggests that any engraving needed be done at the foot of the image.

The Cambridge Company have sent their estimate for printing, and Bowman is to let him know how many copies he wants, and Rix will give the order for printing. He reminds him that the resolution of Council was that the expense was to be borne by the Royal Society. Rix will mark the proof with the name and date of death and return it to Cambridge with his order.
