|27 October 1914
|Is sorry that he is unable to comply with the request in his letter. Thought he knew that it is entirely contradictory for the Royal Society to recognize a candidate for the Fellowship taking steps to promote his cadnidature. Such activity militates against success, and it is strictly forbidden to give blank certificates to anyone by a Fellow. If his friends wish to help him be a member, they can do so by bestirring themselves to take the necessary steps.
