Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society; to Sir Frank [Watson] Dyson, FRS, Chairman of the Mathematics Committee |
Date | 26 September 1919 |
Description | Advises that JW [John William] Nicholson, FRS, reported on the paper 'Equal parallel cylindrical conductors in electrical problems' by RJW Whipple and communicated by Dr C Chree, FRS. JW Nicholson advises it should be published in the 'Proceedings of the Royal Society,' despite adverse criticisms, as it is better than previously published material on the subject in the 'Proceedings' and will 'dispose of this problem and leave nothing more to be said.' Does suggest it should be shortened as there is no novel analysis. The Chairman suggests informing the author publication would be favourably considered if the paper was reduced to six pages of the 'Proceedings.' The Chairman also suggests if the Committee would like a further report asking Dr A Russell, although he is not a Fellow of the Royal Society. Asks the Committee to advise.
