TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society; to Dr DW Carmalt Jones
Date21 October 1919
DescriptionResponding to a letter of 13 October, advises the regulation in question states "Any student desiring to undertake duties outside his research work must obtain the permission of the President [of the Royal Society] and Council." Says this is not intended to prevent a student from doing other work, especially teaching, 'but to bring control of any extraneous activities under the President and Council.' He does not know if in this case the Council of the Royal Society would see his duties at Westminster Hospital as being compatible with a Foulerton Studentship, and that as there is no tradition to go on, each case would be considered on its merits.
