Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Joseph Norman Lockyer, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 21 October 1892 |
Description | Mr Pilbeam is now assistant manager of the hotel and the manager of the Whitehall Rooms is Mr Hembrow. There will be no extra charge for the use of the Reception Room after dinner provided it is cleared by 12. Rix is obtaining an estimate for tea, coffee and aerated water and supposes no eatables shall be wanted. Draft menus will be sent and they will be glad of a call from Lockyer and Dr Frankland three weeks to a fortnight before the dinner to settle the wines. Invitation cards will go out today or tomorrow. As a postscript Rix notes he can only find one box of cigars but three of cigarettes though he is afraid the latter are all dry. |
