TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to the Editor, 'Nature'
Date19 November 1892
DescriptionIn pursuance of a resolution of Council, the Officers have arranged to print upon a circular which will be sent with the proof to every author who reads a paper before the Society, an intimation that he is at liberty to authorise the Society to send an advance copy for publication in 'Nature'. Tthis should supersede the system of circular letters to authors, the object being to ensure that only the corrected copy of the proof should be published, and that papers which are of doubtful value which are ultimately not published by the Society should not appear in the pages of another journal as 'read before the Royal Society'.

With respect to the papers read this week, Rix requests that no invitation should be sent to Dr Hassall for leave to publish his paper; and that similar invitations should in future be suspended in favour of the new arrangement.
