Mr Walter White, formerly Assistant Secretary of this Society, died on July 21, 1893. Of his pension of £350 a year he received during the current financial year only two quarterly instalments of £87-10-0 each, and his executors received after his death the sum of £30. The Royal Society will pay income-tax on his behalf on this amount of £205. I return herewith the demand note which you have sent to be amended accordingly.
I am, yours truly,
Asst. Sec. R.S. [Assistant Secretary, Royal Society]'.
