|Date||9 April 1894|
I have to inform you that Professor [William Edward] Ayrton having intimated his intention to resign his position upon the Council of Almoners of Christ's Hospital, it was resolved at the last meeting of Council that your name should be submitted as Professor Ayrton's successor. I have this day received a letter from the 'Clerk to the Council of Almoners' informing me that Professor Ayrton's resignantion has been placed before that Council and that your nomination will be reported to the Governors at their next meeting.
I am, Dear Sir, your faithful servant,
Asst. Sec. RS. [Assistant Secretary, Royal Society]'.
