Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Charles Chree, Kew Observatory, Richmond, Surrey |
Date | 20 March 1894 |
Description | Rix explains that the Treasurer and both the Secretaries of the Royal Society are abroad, so he has to act on his own best judgement. Chree's letter about auditing the accounts was put upon the Council agenda at the meeting following its receipt, which was held last Thursday. The matter was deferred as the Council felt they could not act on the matter in the Treasurer's absence, and the Officers did not know that there was any urgency about the matter. Following receipt of Chree's letter that morning, Rix will write immediately to the Treasurer, John Evans, but cannot expect an answer for around 10 days.
Under the circumstances, Rix suggests that they proceed on the assumption that the Council will not consider the formality of an additional audit necessary, and so suggests that he gets the revised proof in final form ready for 30 March, by which time Rix should have received a response from Evans authorising him to act in anticipation of the Council's decision. He will wire Evans' answer as soon as he gets it. |
