DescriptionFoster has the honour to inform Hughes that the President and Council of the Royal Society in their meeting on 5 November 1885 have resolved to award him, with the approval of Her Majesty the Queen, a Royal Medal for his work on electric and magnetic researches and his invention of the microphone and induction balance. They hope Hughes will be able to attend the anniversary meeting of the Society at Burlington House on 30 November to receive the medal.
