Title | Copy letter from Michael Foster, to George Gore |
Date | 18 November 1886 |
Description | Gore's letter to Lord Rayleigh of 28 August [1886] was placed before the President and Council of the Royal Society today and though they appreciate Gore's services to science they cannot take action upon the letter, which appears to show a misapprehension of the nature of the Government Grant. With regards Mr Jodrell's gift to the Society, the correspondence and papers in the Society's possession do not mention Gore's name nor is their evidence that Gore was instrumental in inducing Jodrell's gift to the Society. The statement of the late assistant secretary Mr W White, reported to Gore by the late Dr Stenhouse must have been an expression of a private opinion. |
