DescriptionFoster is directed by the President and Council to acknowledge Herschel's letter of 30 December [1886] and to express to Herschel their feeling that the few objects which they posses suitable for the purpose Herschel proposes are of so exceptional a value and are in some cases so liable to injury that they are unwilling to allow them to leave the Royal Society's custody.
