TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Messrs Harrison & Sons
Date14 March 1887
DescriptionIn reply to the Messrs letter of 23 February [1887] the officers will be glad to place the binding of their volumes of 'Proceedings [of the Royal Society]' in cloth into their hands, at the estimated cost of six shillings and a half pence per volume. If they are willing to undertake the binding of the 'Philosophical Transactions [of the Royal Society]' at the same rate as it is now done by Messrs Eyre & Spottiswode, it will be an advantage to have the binding and printing done on the same premises.

The Officers have no objection to the Messrs selling cloth covers for the 'Transactions' at their own establishment provided they are retailed at not more than one shilling six pence each. An advertisement can be inserted on the wrapper of the 'Proceedings' announcing this arrangement if the Messrs see fit. Rix thinks not many Fellows will require these covers since only about 20 intend to have the 'Transactions' in separate numbers, but a good many societies will want such covers since they only have paper copies given to them.

Asks that a standing order is made that in addition to the 25 copies which are separately printed for sale, and the separate copies printed for the author, there are in future to be printed for Fellows and delivered to the office, 25 copies each of the 'Proceedings' and 'Transactions', and that only 425 rather than 450 are to be put into cloth covers.
