TitleCopy letter from an unknown correspondent, to W J Woods
Date29 October 1887
DescriptionIn answer to Woods' letter of yesterday, the correspondent notes it is perfectly clear that Mr Ray Woods was engaged by Dr [David] Gill and not the Royal Society. The Society have allowed Dr Gill a sum of £150 out of their Donation Fund, in consequence of representation that he had gone beyond the amount he had received from the Government Grant, and Mr Ray Woods' letter of 27 July was probably written in ignorance of this fact. In any case the Society cannot interfere in any arrangement made between Gill and Woods.
