Description | Forwards to his Lordship the enclosed copy of a letter from Professor [Charles Smart] Roy to Professor Foster of Trinity College Cambridge, relative to his recent mission to Spain to investigate the nature of cholera. Conveys thanks for valuable assistance Roy has received from the English Legation and Consulate at Madrid. The results of the enquiry cannot yet be made public but the President and Council of the Royal Society have reason to hope they will advance knowledge of the nature of cholera. In the enclosure from Roy to Foster, Roy expresses thanks for letters and assistance from: their Excellencies the French and Spanish Ambassadors to the Court of St James; the Foreign Officer; Mr Macpherson English Consul at Madrid; Mr de Bunjen the English chargé d'affaires at Madrid; Dr Benavides, Dean of the Medical Corporation of the Province of Madrid; Dr Mendoza, Director of the Hygiene Laboratory of the San Juan Hospital. They hope to have the result of their investigations published early in January. |
