TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Silvanus Phillips Thompson, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date26 October 1894
DescriptionRix returns the 'yarn' [not attached] but cannot tell Thompson what truth there is in it. It is quite possible that Cotton Mather was hoaxed. The only certain thing is that he was never a Fellow of the Royal Society. Rix wonders if the matter might have been a mistake rather than a hoax since there wa sa Robert Mather elected in 1729, which is not far from Cotton Mather's date.
