TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to William Fletcher, Brigham Hill, Cockermouth
Date5 November 1894
DescriptionApologizes for the delay in replying. If Fletcher's collection of the 'Philosophical Transactions [of the Royal Society]' includes the very early volumes say from 1662 to 1700, these are of great value and should fetch a good price. Anything from 1800 to 1861 is worth not more than one third the published price. As to the intermediate volumes they vary so much that he can hardly lay down a general rule but if Rix had a set himself he would certainly not refuse any offer that approached half-price. Fletcher will find on the cover the published prices of all since 1800.
