TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster
Date27 May 1895
DescriptionProvides a list of the numbers of papers sent to the Royal Society from 1884 to 1894 totaling 1231 over 11 years. Rix asks if the statement that there has been a recent increase of papers sent to the Society actually bears out and wonders if the increase is not in the papers sent but in the papers considered worthy of publication. Up to the present, they have had fewer papers sent up to the present date than they had last year by 24.

One other criticism Rix has to make is regarding the statement that it is agreed that assistance in publication is a form of 'aid to scientific enquiry'. Rix ask where this phrase is quoted from. Notes that the present Parliamentary grant is voted to enable the Society to defray the expenses of Scientific Investigations.
