TitleCopy letter from Michael Foster, to Dr Augustus Desire Waller, Fellow of the Royal Society, 15 Grove End Road, N.W.
Date18 October 1895
DescriptionWaller's letter to the President [Lord Kelvin, William Thomson] of the 27th September has been laid by him before the Council and Foster has been instructed to reply thus; the Appointment of the Croonian Lecturer for the year and the approval of the subject for the lecture chosen by him rests with the President and Council of the year. Whilst the President and Council feel themselves at liberty, in future as in part years, to adopt as the subject some paper presented to the Society, and as the Lecturer the author of the paper, they would deprecate the practice of papers being sent in to them in the manner suggested by Waller, for this appears to them to be likely to lead to a sort of competition.
