TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to the Director, Science Museum/ South Kensington Museum, South Kensingon, S.W.
Date9 December 1895
DescriptionRix, under the instructions of the Secretaries of the Royal Society, informs him that Professor George Darwin has at Cambridge a large instrument for the harmonic analysis of tidal observations, originally constructed at Glasgow for Lord Kelvin [William Thomson] using a Government Grant for Scientific Research. As it is no longer useful for the purposes for which originally constructed and Cambridge University requires the storage space, they propose that it be placed in the South Kensington Musuem as an item of considerable interest.

The expense of removal would be significant, and so if they respond positively to the suggestion, Rix also asks if their Department would be willing to bear the cost of removal.
