TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to M J Bosscha, Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen, Haarlem, Holland
Date19 November 1895
DescriptionRix states that Bosscha's letter of 26 October and postcard of 5 November had been received, and that they learnt with regret of the death of Dr Bierens de Haan, whom they had met when he was in Great Britain preparing materials for the work which Bosscha has now taken over. He notes that they will assist him to the best of their abilities in his work, as they had done for de Haan.

He returns corrected the two letters by Huyghens and Vernon. Rix also notes that for a copy of the letter to Huyghens of 20 August 1664, mentioned on page 40 of the Portsmouth Catalogue, he must apply to the Earl of Portsmouth. He sends a copy of the title page of Baily's 'Life of Flamsteed', and corrects Bosscha's error that came after Baily's death, noting that he did not die until 1844. In addition, they send a copy of the title page of Barrow's Lectiones, 1669, and numbers 12, 13, and 14 of the lectures in that book.

Rix assures Bosscha that the English in his letter is 'quite fautless', and notes they are less likely to make errors than if he wrote in French, though he is welcome to do so if he prefers. He also sends thanks for the gift of Bosscha's book on Christian Huygens.
