TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Messrs Harrison & Sons
Date3 January 1896
DescriptionRix clarifies that they only wish to be in same position as they would have been should Harrison & Sons not made the mistake. They are 70 copies short as 70 had been spoilt, so their charge should be for the full number minus 70. If, at the end of the year, the 70 have to be reprinted at full cost, the Royal Society will lose out.

Rix therefore states that if they reprint the 70 now, the matter will be concluded. He cannot admit that the error was not caused by neglect, as they did not query what they believed to be a mistake. It seems to Rix and the Officers that the error was the gravest a printer could make, namely to alter without query a press sheet.
