| Description | Rix reports that the Statute, by which the President was to be covered when in the Chair, was repealed alongside a number of others on 2 July 1891. He regretted the removal of this 'picturesque' Statute and communciated this to the 'Athenaeum' at the time.
The Royal Society's Statutes now differ from those with which Wheatley will be familiar, and Rix explains that three years were spent changing them. He believes the alterations 'amounted to a revolution in form, though very little effect...in the conduct of the Society'. Rix suggests the great change to the Society has been produced by other means. |
